# An audit you can hear.

Enter a web address and we'll run Google's PageSpeed Insights on it, as a phone would see it. Then the results play back as a short piece of music. A fast site sounds calm and settled. A slow one drags, drifts and never quite lands.

Sound plays only when you press Play, and the site's own soundtrack pauses until the piece ends. The address you enter goes from your browser straight to Google's PageSpeed Insights. We don't see it or keep it.

## What you're hearing.

- **The wait.** The music starts when the page's main content shows up. The longer the wait, the later the melody, and slow pages stretch every phrase after it.
- **The drift.** Layout shift is the page jumping as it loads. You hear it as notes slipping off pitch and a slow wobble.
- **The weight.** Heavy pages sound thick and muddy: the sound gets darker and a low rumble builds underneath.
- **The hesitation.** When the browser is busy running scripts, taps don't respond. You hear notes arrive late.
- **The sour notes.** Every audit the page fails adds one quiet, slow clash. A few are background color; a lot of them crowd the music.
- **The ending.** The performance score picks the last chord. 90 and up comes home. 50 to 89 hangs unresolved. Under 50 never settles.

## Our new site: the score in words

Static pages, almost no JavaScript. Measured October 29, 2026, Lighthouse on a simulated phone.

- 0:00 **The wait** (Main content in 2 s). A soft chord, and the melody comes in after 2.0 seconds. The page shows its main content quickly, so nothing drags.
- 0:07 **The drift** (Layout shift 0). The notes hold their pitch, or very nearly. Little or nothing on the page jumps around while it loads.
- 0:13 **The weight** (241 KB in 23 requests). Clear and open. The page is light, so the sound stays bright.
- 0:18 **The hesitation** (Blocked for 17 ms). Every note lands on time. The page responds to a tap right away.
- 0:24 **The sour notes** (4 audits failed). 4 quiet clashes under the melody, one for each audit the page fails. Each one is a fix on a list.
- 0:29 **The ending** (Performance score 99). The music comes home and rests. A score of 99: fast and settled.

## Our old WordPress site: the score in words

A page builder, plugins and a big hero image. Measured October 29, 2026, Lighthouse on a simulated phone.

- 0:00 **The wait** (Main content in 7.8 s). A long wait: 7.0 seconds of pad before the melody. The main content took 7.8 seconds, so every phrase after it is stretched 45%.
- 0:15 **The drift** (Layout shift 0.069). The notes hold their pitch, or very nearly. Little or nothing on the page jumps around while it loads.
- 0:23 **The weight** (6.0 MB in 69 requests). Thick and muddy: the top end closes off and a low rumble fills the room. The page asks a phone to download 6.0 MB.
- 0:31 **The hesitation** (Blocked for 1,026 ms). The melody keeps catching, notes landing late. Scripts block the page for 1,026 milliseconds, so taps feel stuck.
- 0:41 **The sour notes** (18 audits failed). The clashes pile up, one for each failed audit (we stop adding at eight), and crowd the chord. 18 audits failed: a long list of fixes.
- 0:50 **The ending** (Performance score 38). It fades out without ever settling. A score of 38: slow enough to cost visits and sales.

- 0:23 **The weight** (6.6 MB in 89 requests). Thick and muddy: the top end closes off and a low rumble fills the room. The page asks a phone to download 6.6 MB.
- 0:31 **The hesitation** (Blocked for 883 ms). The melody keeps catching, notes landing late. Scripts block the page for 883 milliseconds, so taps feel stuck.

- 0:50 **The ending** (Performance score 37). It fades out without ever settling. A score of 37: slow enough to cost visits and sales.

## Real numbers, played straight.

Nothing here is made up for effect. The page asks Google's PageSpeed Insights to load the address on a simulated mid-range phone, the same test Google uses, and turns six of its numbers into music in your browser.

1. **Measure.** PageSpeed Insights runs Lighthouse against the page and reports how long the main content took, how much the layout jumped, how heavy the page is, how long scripts blocked it and which audits it failed.
2. **Compose.** Each number sets part of the piece: when the melody starts, how far it drifts, how dark and thick the sound is, where notes hesitate, how many sour notes join, and which chord it ends on.
3. **Play.** Your browser builds the sound on the spot with the Web Audio API. There are no recordings and no files to download, and the same result always plays the same piece.

Google's free quota for these audits is small and shared, so a live run may have to wait a minute. The samples always work.
